Confirming reports that had been swirling for a week, Savannah Guthrie has been named as ousted "Today" co-host Ann Curry's replacement, NBC announced on Friday.
Guthrie, who had previously co-hosted the morning show's third hour, was widely reported as the heir apparent to Curry's spot.
Curry announced her departure from the show in a teary speech Thursday, following two weeks of reports that she was being ushered off of the show.
Curry had taken the co-host spot about a year ago, replacing Meredith Vieira.
Curry will remain with NBC in various capacities, and will be on hand for NBC's coverage of the Olympics in London next month.
Guthrie, who has previously filled in for Curry on "Today," did so again on Friday's broadcast, though no announcement of her promotion was made during the program.
