Demons and warlocks and werewolves, oh my.
Cassandra Clare’s best-selling fantasy series “The Mortal Instruments” is getting the big screen treatment, Screen Gems announced Monday. The production company will team up with Constantin Film and Unique Features to develop the film.
Newcomer Jessica Postigo wrote the script which is based on the first book in the series, “City of Bones.” Constantin Film’s head of Film & TV Martin Moszkowicz will executive produce and Robert Kulzer will produce the project under the Constantin Film banner along with producing partners Michael Lynne, Robert Shaye, and executive producer Dylan Sellers under their Unique Features banner.
“City of Bones,” is set in modern day New York City and centers on a teenager Clary Fray, who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to fighting demons. The release said that the plot will also involve mischievous fairies, eccentric warlocks, werewolf gangs and other strange creatures.
Should the movie connect with audiences, it can easily be franchised.
"The Mortal Instruments" consists of four novels — "City of Bones," "City of Ashes," "City of Glass," and the upcoming "City of Fallen Angels."
