‘The First’ Trailer: Sean Penn Could Either Discover Life on Mars – or Not Abandon His Daughter (Video)

The space drama begins Sept. 14 on Hulu

You don’t have to see it to believe it.

The first full trailer for “The First” has landed, and it’s here to take you on a search for life on the Red Planet.

Sean Penn stars as Tom Hagerty, an astronaut struggling with making the right decisions not only for his team but also for his family.

Natascha McElhone is Laz Ingram, CEO of Vista, who tries to convince Hagerty to get the best team together for a mission to look for life on Mars that she says will fulfill the destiny of all 8 billion people on Earth.

“They all say the same thing. ‘I’ll believe it when I see it,’” Ingram tells Hagerty in the trailer. “But that’s backwards. Belief comes first. Only then can you see it.” But her proposal poses a huge risk for Hagerty, whose daughter begs him to stay home.

LisaGay Hamilton, Hannah Ware, Keiko Agena, Rey Lucas, James Ransone, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Brian Lee Franklin, and Oded Fehr also star. Willimon and Jordan Tappis, from Westward Productions, are executive producing. Westward owns and will produce the series, which is co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, IMG and AG Studios. IMG will handle all international rights.
