Selena Gomez is joining Paul Rudd in “The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Rob Burnett wrote and is directing the adaptation of Jonathan Evison’s 2013 novel with Rudd in the role of Ben, a caregiver looking after Trevor, a tyrannical teenager in the advanced stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Gomez will play Dot, a sassy teenager who embarks on a roadtrip with Ben and Trevor.

Filming begins January 22 in Atlanta.

Gomez is coming off of Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers,” “Getaway” opposite Ethan Hawke and William H. Macy‘s directorial debut “Rudderless.” She voiced a lead role in “Hotel Transylvania” and will reprise the role for the sequel, coming this year.

Gomez is represented by WME and Brillestein Entertainment.

Deadline first reported the news.
