Seth Meyers Questions What Republicans Could Even Impeach Biden For: ‘Not Stealing Classified Documents?’ (Video)

“Doing that thing where he occasionally looks like he’s not sure where to stand, and just kind of gets stuck on stage?” Meyers joked

As the midterms get closer, more and more Republicans seem to be floating the idea of impeaching President Joe Biden in the event that their party takes control of the House once more. But Seth Meyers is having a pretty hard time figuring out what Biden could even be impeached for, mocking the idea on Monday night’s episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

During his “A Closer Look” segment, Meyers touched on the fact that an appeals court recently ruled that the federal criminal investigation into twice-impeached former president Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents that he stole from the White House could proceed in the coming weeks.

“And yet, oddly, there’s only one current or former president Republicans seem focused on impeaching, and it’s not the one facing multiple criminal investigations and civil suits, who stole classified documents from the White House and fomented a violent coup to overthrow American democracy,” Meyers deadpanned.

At that, the late night host pulled up footage of Congresswoman Nancy Mace discussing the “pressure” Republicans are under to impeach Biden if they take control of the House after the midterm elections. But Meyers couldn’t help but scoff at the idea, calling the party “crazy.”

“I mean, what are you gonna impeach him for, not stealing classified documents?” Meyers mocked. “Wearing sunglasses inside? Doing that thing where he occasionally looks like he’s not sure where to stand, and just kind of gets stuck on stage? Look, it’s funny, OK? It’s funny, and it happens to all of us.”

Speaking more seriously, Meyers shredded the idea that impeachment is something Republicans are considering at all, arguing that the party has “degraded” the legitimacy of disciplinary actions in the U.S.

“This is how badly the Republican party has degraded the institutions of our government,” Meyers said. “They see power purely as a means to reward themselves and punish their enemies, even in the midst of a major global crisis that should inspire bipartisan cooperation. Republicans want to impeach Joe Biden for no reason, but if you asked them to hold Trump accountable, even just a little bit, they’d say ‘No, no, no.’”
