Wrapid Fire: ‘Shadowhunters’ Star Dominic Sherwood Talks Runes, Costumes and First Kiss (Video)

TV adaptation of “The Mortal Instruments” YA novels airs Tuesdays on Freeform

“Shadowhunters” star Dominic Sherwood answered a few “Wrapid Fire” questions about his new Freeform series during the latest episode of TheWrap’s “Drinking With the Stars.”

Based on Cassandra Clare’s popular “The Mortal Instruments” series of novels, “Shadowhunters” features no shortage of complicated lingo, which Sherwood helpfully explains in the video.

For example, in the series’ mythology, a “rune” is a mark worn on the body of a shadowhunter “to give us demon-fighting abilities,” Sherwood says with a wink to the camera.

The actor also discusses his first kiss (“clumsy at best”) and dances around a question about his first date with his girlfriend, “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland.

He also reveals which other role he’d play given the chance, but it’s not one fans would immediately expect: “Isabelle, because of her costume.”

“Shadowhunters” stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons.

The series premiered last Tuesday to an impressive 1.82 million total viewers, making it the best series debut on ABC Family/Freeform in more than two years.

“Shadowhunters” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Freeform.
