‘The Shape of Water’ Red Band Trailer Puts Creature Front and Center (Video)

Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming fantastical romance has received spectacular reviews

The new red band trailer for “The Shape of Water” puts the monster front and center as Guillermo del Toro tells the story of an unlikely romance.

“The Shape of Water” follows a mute janitor who befriends a mysterious sea creature, called “The Asset,” being studied in a lab.

“This is the most sensitive asset ever to to be housed in this facility,” a lab worker says in the trailer.

Set during the height of the Cold War, “The Shape of Water” stars Sally Hawkins as the mute woman named Elisa; del Toro’s longtime collaborator Doug Jones (“Hellboy,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”) plays the creature. Hawkins’ character tries to defy everyone she is working for and attempts to fight for his freedom.

“The Shape of Water” also stars Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer and Michael Stuhlbarg. Del Toro wrote the screenplay with Vanessa Taylor and produced alongside J. Miles Dale.

Del Toro’s fantastical romance won the Golden Lion in Venice earlier this month. Since it premiered at the Venice Film Festival, it has received spectacular reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a score of 100 percent, based on 36 positive reviews.

“The Shape of Water” will be released on December 8.
