‘Sharknado’ 3rd Airing Gets More Viewers Than the First 2

The Syfy original movie about Ian Ziering saving L.A. from a sharkstorm earns 2.1 million viewers

The "Sharknado" storm continues to build: the third time proved to be the charm for the made-for-TV movie about a tornado full o' sharks over the weekend with 2.1 million.

In fact, Saturday night's third airing of "Sharknado" was the most-watched original movie encore in Syfy history.

The movie aired during an all-day "Sharkathon" festival which also featured "Sharktopus," "Two-Headed Shark Attack" and "Swamp Shark."

The encore telecast earned 1.9 million viewers, which was 500,000 more than its premiere. But this is not the end for the little movie with big sharks in an even bigger storm.

On Friday, there will be a special midnight screening of "Sharknado" in more than 200 select theaters nationwide. "Sharknado" will have its final airing of the summer on Aug. 22, leading into the premiere of Original Movie "Ghost Shark."

"Sharknado 2" will hit New York City in July 2014 on Syfy.
