Shawn Levy is developing an untitled “Star Wars” movie with an eye to direct, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. Details about the project are being kept under wraps.

The project would follow after Levy is done with “Deadpool 3” which marks the first film where Marvel Studios will work in partnership with Ryan Reynolds and Team Deadpool. The film also marks the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The sequel is expected to be R-rated like the previous two “Deadpool” installments, which would be a first for Marvel Studios.

Levy has a full plate and is currently developing the episodes of the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” via his 21 Laps banner.

In other “Star Wars” news, TheWrap has learned that J.D. Dillard’s “Star Wars” movie (first reported back in February 2020) is no longer happening.

While talking to TheWrap about “Devotion,” his exceptional new naval aviation movie starring Jonathan Majors and Glen Powell, we brought up a few of the productions he has been linked to over the past few years, including “Star Wars.” Apparently none of them are “go” projects anymore.

About “Star Wars,” he said that it was “unfortunately no longer a thing.” “It was not for lack of trying,” Dillard explained. Not that he’s totally done with the idea of making a space movie. It’s just that this time, “it will be an original idea.”

Deadline first reported the news about Levy.
