‘The Simpsons’ Honors David Letterman With a Classic Couch Gag (Video)

The record-setting late night host is none-too-impressed in this meta moment from Sunday’s show

The tributes continue to roll in for David Letterman.

Since the irascible television icon announced late last week that he will be retiring from his job as host of CBS’ “Late Show,” adoring fans and followers have been singing his praises and lauding his impact on comedy. On Sunday, the producers of “The Simpsons” gave their own unique nod to the 67-year-old host, animating Letterman into a special version of the weekly opening “couch gag,” which placed Homer and his family on the hot seat at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

And while it may have been a cartoon, they made sure to import Letterman’s very real, no-nonsense cynicism to the sequence.

The “Simpsons” hat tip is just one of many on-air tributes, following the likes of Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon, who spoke reverently about the host during their own shows following Letterman’s announcement.
