Gal Gadot reprised her role as Diana of Themyscira, also known as Wonder Woman, on Saturday’s “SNL,” in a sketch in which a pair of lesbians landed on the island and were disappointed to find the Amazons weren’t interested in relationships.
Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant played two women, Megan and Dre, who found themselves excited to be on the island populated by warrior women. But as they called for a show of hands of women on the island who were gay, they quickly found that Themyscira wasn’t the paradise they hoped.
“Okay, so, cut to the chase. Show of hands, who all here is a lesbian? Is it everyone or do we have a couple of allies?” McKinnon’s character Megan asked. “Because so far it’s Megan and Dre. And who else? We’ve got two. We would love to see that hand go up, Diana.”
“I’m not sure I understand,” Gadot returned.
“So far, hands, we have, Megan and Dre — gotta be more,” McKinnon said. “This is outrageous. What is this?”
“Yeah, maybe somebody in the back?” Bryant said. “How about you with the frosted tips?” She said, indicating Melissa Villasenor’s Amazon.
“This is a huge letdown for us,” McKinnon said when Diana explained that she wasn’t gay, either.
“Just because the whole thing seemed so super gay,” Bryant added.
The pair watched, dismayed, as a pair of Amazons squared off in a short wrestling match.
“It’s like we are in a porn, but the plumber is just genuinely there to fix the pipes,” Bryant said.
“Damn it. No one is wrong here. It’s just — it’s unfortunate,” McKinnon added.
As McKinnon and Bryant expressed their disappointment, Gadot’s Diana threw them a bone — she could kiss one of them to see if she felt something.
“Honey, we are not guinea pigs, OK?” McKinnon returned. “We are not here for you to experiment on. Unless you feel strongly about it.”
“Yeah, I mean, I guess you are an Amazon and you could overpower us,” Bryant said.
“Yes, it’s useless for us to try to fight you,” McKinnon continued. “So I guess just pick one of us. I mean, I’ll do it.
Gadot’s Wonder Woman gave McKinnon a long kiss while Bryant watched. As the two separated, though, Gadot’s Diana told them, “I’m sorry, I feel nothing.”
“And I felt nothing watching it,” Bryant chimed in.
“No, me either, zero,” McKinnon insisted. “I felt zero from that. Now we know. Good to know. So, let’s get in the boat. This is too sad.”
The pair rowed off in search of a new place to land — and quickly headed for the Greek island of Lesbos.
