Exclusive: Sony Pictures Classics Picks Up ‘Incendies’

The French-language film gets snapped up amid a marketplace that’s heating up

 

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the French-Canadian film "Incendies," ("Incendiary") TheWrap has learned.

The movie was purchased for six figures, an executive close to the deal told TheWrap on Monday.

The film focuses on a pair of twins who go on a quest to find their roots in the Middle East.

After their mother Nawal's death, twins Simon and Jeanne embark on a journey to the Middle East that shines a disturbing light on their mother's past and culminates in a shocking revelation.

Based on the acclaimed play by Wajdi Mouawad, the film is directed by Genie and Jutra award-winner Denis Villeneuve.
