Soul Singer Sharon Jones Reveals She Has Bile Duct Cancer

Jones and band the Dap-Kings canceled their tour and August album release

Soul singer Sharon Jones revealed on Monday that she has cancer, and is canceling plans for an album and tour in 2013.

Jones, the singer of the Dap-Kings, has stage-one bile duct cancer and requires immediate surgery. The band had planned to release "Give the People What They Want" on August 6.

The group was already touring in promotion of its new album, but Jones had missed several shows recently for medical testing. The 57-year-old singer is expected to make a full recovery as the tumor was discovered early.

"I"ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress," Jones said on her website. "I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!"

Jones has performed on tour with Lou Reed and recorded a duet of "Baby (You’ve Got What It Takes)" with Michael Buble on his 2009 album, "Crazy Love."
