Speedo-Clad Darren Criss Teases Ryan Murphy’s ‘The Assassination of Gianni Versace’ (Video)

Second season of FX’s “American Crime Story” premieres January 17

A Speedo-clad Darren Criss takes a dive into a luxurious pool in the new teaser for FX’s upcoming miniseries “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.”

Criss plays Andrew Cunanan, the young stud and spree killer who murdered the famed fashion designer Gianni Versace outside his Miami Beach home in 1997.

Ryan Murphy’s new series also stars Edgar Ramirez as Versace, Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace and Ricky Martin as Antonio D’Amico.

“Versace” is the second installment of FX’s award-winning limited series, “American Crime Story.” The first season, “The People v. O.J. Simpson,” won 9 Emmy Awards as well as collecting Golden Globe, BAFTA, AFI, PGA, WGA and TCA awards.

Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Tom Rob Smith and Dan Minahan are executive producers.

Mystery writer Tom Rob Smith wrote the series and Murphy directed the premiere episode.

The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.

A Hurricane Katrina-focused second season of “ACS” was initially planned to be the O.J. successor, but Murphy pushed that storyline for Season 3. He also chose new source material for it.

The third installment of the Emmy-winning anthology series will now be based on the book “Five Days in Memorial” by Pulitzer-winning author Sheri Fink, and will tell the story of Dr. Anna Pou and her decision to euthanize critically ill patients after being trapped for days without power at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
