Paramount seems to be adhering to the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," as Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are in negotiations to return to deep space and write "Star Trek 3," an individual familiar with Paramount's sequel has told TheWrap.
Paramount had no comment.

Kurtzman and Orci co-wrote the first two "Star Trek" movies with director J.J. Abrams, who is nearing a deal to produce the third installment through his Bad Robot banner.
Paramount, Skydance and Bad Robot are currently seeking a director for "Star Trek 3," as Abrams will be busy directing "Star Wars Episode VII" for Disney and LucasFilm.
Kurtzman and Orci's newest challenge is to find time in their busy schedule to write "Star Trek 3," as they're also developing reboots of "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing" for Universal in addition to their growing TV portfolio.
The "Star Trek" franchise will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016, so while "Star Trek 3" remains unscheduled, that commemorative year would provide a fitting release date.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" has grossed $450 million worldwide, evenly balanced between U.S. and international audiences.
Kurtzman and Orci are repped by CAA and attorney Michael Gendler.
