‘Star Wars’ Production Set for UK

Disney will release the seventh film in the franchise in 2015

The next “Star Wars” film will shoot in the UK, Lucasfilm announced on Friday. All six previous "Star Wars" film have shot some scenes at UK studios, but this announcement suggests that the bulk of production will take place overseas.

"We've devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I'm thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that," Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, said in statement. "Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it's very exciting to be heading back."

Lucasfilm made this decision after representatives from Lucafilm met with George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer. TheWrap previously reported that ILM, the Lucasfilm-owned visual effects-powerhouse, was considering doing post-production work in the UK.

The UK has attracted a great deal of work in recent years thanks to very welcoming tax incentive programs.

Disney will release the next "Star Wars," the first since "Revenge of the Sith," in 2015.
