‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer Inspires Over 16 Million Facebook Interactions (Exclusive)

Over eight million unique users took to Facebook to share and comment on the latest installment of the iconic space saga

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” teaser trailer is garnering an epic amount of attention on Facebook, to the surprise of no one.

New numbers indicate that 8.4 million unique Facebook users took to the social media site to share the trailer and interact with their friends about it. Facebook clocked 16.7 million interactions related to “Star Wars” and the trailer in the first 72 hours following its release on Friday, Nov 28.

However, in terms of the overall social media presence of new trailers, “Star Wars” appears to trail behind “Jurassic World,” which released its own first trailer a day earlier on Thanksgiving, according to BoxOffice.com.

The first “Jurassic World” trailer garnered over 700,000 likes on Facebook in the week following its release, based on BoxOffice.com’s findings. By contrast, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” gained under 200,000 likes, which leaves it outside the Top 20 Facebbook post-trailer like increase list.

Still, “Star Wars” is definitely no loser. According to Zefr, the 88-second teaser trailer is on pace to become the most watched movie trailer ever. In its first week, it racked up over 63 million views on Youtube, according to Zefr’s findings, beating the trailer for “Jurassic World,” which was watched 55 million times.

Previously, the record was held by “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which had been watched 50 million times its first week. “Fifty Shades of Grey’s” first trailer was watched 36 times in its first week and “Minions” counted 35 million views of its trailer in the first week.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released on Dec 18, 2015.
