Starz Releases Key Art, Teasers for Michael Bay’s ‘Black Sails’ (Photo & Video)

The pirate drama will premiere in January 2014 on the premium cable channel

Starz just released the key art and first teasers for its pirate drama, "Black Sails," from executive producer Michael Bay ("Transformers") and series showrunner and creator Jon Steinberg ("Jericho"). It premieres in January 2014.

Dark and invoking the dangerous skull and crossbones symbol, the key art gestures to what TheWrap hears is the series' gritty portrayal of pirate life in the mid-18th century. There will be swashbuckling, sex and Bay's trademark explosions.

Currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa, "Black Sails" stars Toby Stephens (“Die Another Day”) as Captain Flint, a notorious pirate captain, who takes on a new charismatic young addition to his crew, John Silver (Luke Arnold). The pirates fight to survive on New Providence Island, a criminal’s paradise inhabited by prostitutes, thieves and those seeking riches.

The series also stars Zach McGowan ("Shameless"), Toby Schmitz ("Crownies"), Hannah New ("El Tiempo Entre Costuras"), Jessica Parker Kennedy ("90210"), Clara Paget ("Fast and Furious 6") and Tom Hopper ("Merlin").

Bay executive produces the series along with Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. Robert Levine ("Touch") is co-executive producer.

Last week, Starz released the key art for returning mob drama, "Magic City." In August, the cable channel will debut “The White Queen,” a 10-episode drama based on Philippa Gregory’s novels.
