‘Step Up’s’ Jon Chu to Put Justin Bieber’s Hair Flip in 3D

Gets the biopic directing gig that David Guggenheim reportedly bailed on

Whew. It’s not Davis Guggenheim, after all.

After bizarre reports that the “Inconvenient Truth” director was going to take on a 3D Justin Bieber biopic — and then reports that he had decided not to – a more fitting director has stepped up to the plate.

"Step Up" and “Step Up 3D’s” Jon Chu teased in a long series of tweets that he's taking on the Bieb — and he and the teen idol confirm it together on YouTube.

It started Wednesday night with this: "Wow my secret mission project is gonnnnnaa be crrrraaazzyy… Have gone non stop and my life turned upside down in the last 3 days. Wow my secret mission project is gonnnnnaa be crrrraaazzyy… Have gone non stop and my life turned upside down in the last 3 days."

Then on Thursday night: "Yo @justinbieber I want to learn how to Hair Flip. You think we should give them the big news?"

And then: "I'll be posting random updates and behind the scenes footage along the way. It's Official… I HAVE BIEBER FEVER — http://bit.ly/b26I6b"

That last link goes to a video on YouTube in which The Bieb introduces Chu as “the director of the movie … his name’s Jon.”

Bieber, who also is writing his own illustrated "memoirs," will play himself in the film, which is scheduled for release Feb. 11, 2011– just in time for Valentine's Day.

Bieber's manager Scooter Braun will produce with Island Def Jam chairman L.A. Reid.

As for Guggenheim, his next film — "Waiting for Superman," a documentary about America's failing education system — comes out later this year.

In 2D.
