Stephen Colbert Finally Agrees With Donald Trump That CNN Is Fake News (Video)

Colbert called out CNN for saying Dana Carvey played John Bolton on “SNL”

Stephen's Nightly Laughs

It seems Stephen Colbert finally found something he actually agrees with Donald Trump about: CNN is “fake news.”

The reason: a botched headline Thursday morning about comedian Dana Carvey’s appearance as Trump’s National Security Advisor-designate John Bolton on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” Or as CNN put it the next morning, “Look Who’s Playing John Bolton on ‘SNL.’”

Colbert brought the error up during Thursday night’s opening monologue, while talking about the report that Trump personally called Roseanne Barr to congratulate her on the huge ratings for the “Roseanne” revival. “The reason Trump crowed about the ratings is that on the show, Roseanne the character agrees with Donald Trump,” Colbert said.

“A lot of people called that ‘refreshing.’ Well, I would like 18 million people to watch my show,” Colbert continued, “so let me serve up some refreshment right now, and I mean this sincerely. I agree with Donald Trump about something: CNN lies.”

Colbert then showed the CNN Headline.

“Fake. News.” Colbert said. “I take everything back. I apologize. Donald Trump is a great president. Come on, CNN, this isn’t ‘SNL,’ unless you think S-N-L stands for ‘Stephen’s Nightly Laughs.’”

Colbert then offered a hot tip for CNN to distinguish between “SNL” and his show: namely, that Carvey’s appearance happened on a Wednesday.
