“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” recently went to Russia — or did he?
Mirroring Donald Trump Jr.’s blurry recollections of his own trip to the Eastern European country, late-night host Colbert had trouble getting his facts straight when he launched Russia Week on Monday.
“I recently met with a lot of Russians … I can’t remember why, maybe it was I was in Russia. Oh, some of them work for the government,” he said.
“This week, we’ll be showing you one Russian field piece, I mean two Russian field pieces … my lawyer is telling me it’s five Russian field pieces,” the CBS host continued.
“I didn’t think you would find out, the whole thing was meant to be a secret but someone leaked it to CBS’ marketing department.”
Hint: It was Colbert who leaked it.
There was plenty more mentions of Russia, plus both Trump Sr. and Jr. later in the show.
“Of course, when it comes to Don Jr. there’s not much intelligence to counter,” he quipped. Ouch.
