Stephen Colbert Urges White House Staff to ‘Change the Locks’ While Trump’s on Vacation (Video)

Late night host also explains the need for HVAC renovations: “the previous president was simultaneously hotter and cooler”

Stephen Colbert took shots at President Donald Trump on “The Late Show” Friday night for taking a 17-day vacation. “He’s earned it…” Colbert paused, “…is a phrase you don’t say about Donald Trump.”

The late night host pointed out a tweet from Trump in 2011 in which he mocked Barack Obama for a (shorter) vacation. “@BarackObama played golf yesterday. Now he heads to a 10 day vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. Nice work ethic,” the tweet said.

“I know, I know, but let’s focus on the bright side of that tweet,” Colbert said, assuaging “boos” from the audience. “Donald Trump has heard the word ‘ethics.’ There’s been no evidence up till now.”

Colbert also referenced reports that the White House will undergo renovations while Trump is away. “It’s about damn time; I heard that place is a dump,” he said, alluding to reports that Trump told golf journalists the White House is a “dump” compared to his New Jersey country club.

The White House will get updated heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, because, as Colbert said, “the previous president was simultaneously hotter and cooler.”

“And while their making changes to the White House, can I make one suggestion?” Colbert finished, turning to whisper to the camera. “Change the locks! Do it, now’s your chance!”
