A multi-platform adaptation of Stephen King’s seven-book series, “The Dark Tower,” has hit another roadblock.
Warner Bros. has passed on the project, making it the second studio to decline after Universal decided not to move forward last year over budget concerns, according to an individual with knowledge of the deal.

The individual cited concerns over producing a project of this magnitude in a way that would satisfy the best-selling novels' die-hard fans as one possible reason for the project stalling. Thirty million copies of the books have been sold in 40 countries.
Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard was set to direct, with King and Imagine partner Brian Grazer producing alongside the script writer, Akiva Goldsman.
The story follows a gunslinger who takes both a metaphorical and physical journey to reach a tower. It combines multiple genres, including western, fantasy, science fiction and horror. Goldsman, an Oscar-winning writer, recently re-wrote the script. King is working on an eighth book in the series.
