Steven Soderbergh Says He’s Going to Retire

Filmmaker tells “Studio 360’s” Kurt Anderson that he’ll call it quits after he finishes his next two films

If you can retire by 48, go for it.

Apparently, that's Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh's plan. The director of "Out of Sight," Traffic" and the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise said Friday on the National Public Radio program "Studio 360" that he's going to call it quits from the film business after he shoots his next two films.

Soderbergh has grumbled about the worlkload of filmmaking before. But after he finishes the Matt Damon/Michael Douglas film "Liberace," and the George Clooney movie "Man from U.N.C.L.E., he said he's done.

"When you reach the point where you're saying, 'If I have to get into a van to do another (location) scout, I'm going to shoot myself,' it's time to let somebody else who's still excited about getting in a van get in a van … For the last three years, I've been turning down everything that comes my way, so you're not going to have Steven Soderbergh to kick around anymore."
