Michael Avenatti, the lawyer representing porn star Stormy Daniels in her legal fight against Donald Trump, offered an apology Thursday after calling Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani a “disgusting pig.”
Well, it was an apology of sorts — he apologized to the pig he compared Giuliani to.
“I do want to go back on what I said, though; you know, I called him a pig last night and this morning and earlier today. An apology, actually, Wolf, is in order. But not to Mr. Giuliani, but rather to the pig,” Avenatti said, while speaking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
The attorney continued, “I owe an apology to the pig, for associating Mr. Giuliani with a pig. This guy’s a disgrace, it’s disgusting, it has no place in American society or anywhere else for that matter, and he should have already been fired. And the fact that he wasn’t shows a complete lack of leadership and moral compass on the part of the president.”
Avenatti reiterated the sentiment in a subsequent tweet, writing, “To be clear – I am extremely remorseful for comparing the pig to Mr. Giuliani.”
He had made his swinish comparison Thursday after Giuliani suggested that his client, Stormy Daniels, was not credible because she was a porn star.
“I respect all human beings,” Giuliani said during a news conference in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, referring to Daniels. “I even have to respect, you know, criminals. But I’m sorry, I don’t respect a porn star the way I respect a career woman or a woman of substance or a woman who has great respect for herself as a woman and as a person and isn’t going to sell her body for sexual exploitation.”
On Thursday, Giuliani echoed those thoughts, telling CNN, “If you’re involved in a sort of slimy business, (that) says something about you — says something about how far you’ll go to make money,” he said.
“This guy is an absolute disgusting pig, he should be fired immediately,” Avenatti told MSNBC anchor Stepahnie Ruhle Thursday morning.
Daniels, who says she had an affair with Trump more than a decade ago, is suing the president for defamation after he called a sketch of a man — who Daniels says threatened her — a “total con job.”
