“Stranger Things” star Shannon Purser has joined the cast of The CW’s midseason Archie adaptation “Riverdale,” TheWrap has learned.

The actress, who played fan-favorite character Barb on Netflix’s sci-fi series, will take on the role of Ethel Muggs. She will appear in at least three episodes.

“Riverdale” is set in the present day and is based on the iconic Archie Comics characters. It is described as a surprising and subversive take on Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead (Cole Sprouse) and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing and executive producing along with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater.
