Streamy Awards 2017: The Complete Winners List

Online video’s biggest night raised funds for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Houston, and Florida

“Sugar Pine 7” (Show of the Year) and The Dolan Twins (Creator of the Year) won the top prizes at the rowdy, political and Jake Paul-hating Streamy Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Tuesday night [Sept. 26].

The full list of winners follows below.

Jon Cozart Streamys

“It’s the A-list of the D-list,” host Jon Cozart cracked during his searing opening monologue. “We’ve all kind of lost. A few years ago this show was on VH1. Then it was on YouTube Live. Now it’s on Twitter.”

With eligibility governed by the method of distribution (online video) instead of the flavor of the content, the 41 award categories covered distinct disciplines that do not commingle.

NBA star Kevin Durant, Oreos’ collaboration with “Dude Perfect” and rapper 21 Savage were nominated alongside digital natives likes Lilly Singh, Casey Neistat, Rooster Teeth, hard newsers The Young Turks and internet cipher Poppy.

All but the top two awards, Creator of the Year and Show of the Year, were peer-voted by a Blue Ribbon Panel (yes, that is the name) of online video industry professionals.

Translation: it’s not a fan vote for bedroom vloggers.

With the Streamys’ surprisingly heavy focus on feting original scripted episodic content, powerhouses like Verizon Digital Entertainment’s go90 and New Form took home wins for series “Cold” and “Mr. Student Body President.”  The gender-neutral comedy and drama acting prizes went to Mamrie Hart and DeStorm Power respectively.

Similar to the Emmys and Oscars, the show included a slew of craft and technical awards.

Trophies went to directors (“Mr. Student Body President”), writers (DeStorm Power), costume designers (“Magic Funhouse”), and visual and special effects (“Corridor”).

These categories underscore the evolution from only a few years ago when YouTube funded productions by established media brands to kickstart the professional era.

However, the  Streamys would not be “The Streamys” without orthodox YouTube eye candy:  Best Cover Song (Ariana Grande singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”), Smosh Games winning the Gaming and Live categories, and an overdose of camp with The Village People closing the show singing “Macho Man.”
