‘Suicide Squad’ Reaction: Supervillain Movie Needs a Better Villain (Video)

TheWrap’s resident fanboy Umberto Gonzalez has seen “Suicide Squad” – here is his take

“Suicide Squad” is about villains recruited to do good. Ironically, the biggest weakness of the highly anticipated movie is that the eclectic bunch of anti-heroes need a better villain to fight.

After a week of avoiding overzealous fanboys on social media curious for my take on “Suicide Squad,” the embargo is finally lifted and I can now share my thoughts on the movie. And they’re mostly positive, except for this: Cara Delevingine’s The Enchantress is a bit on the cheesy side.

Villain issues aside, the movie is still enjoyable and has a lot going for it. Viola Davis‘s performance as Warden Amanda Waller, in my opinion, is the standout role.

Amanda Waller is a literal translation from the page to the screen. If you enjoyed her in the comics or on any of the DC animated series, you’re in for a treat.

Will Smith is back in top form as assassin Deadshot, Margot Robbie slays as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney is entertaining as Captain Boomerang and Jay Hernandez is hot as El Diablo.

My only other complaint is that there wasn’t enough screen time for Jared Leto‘s Joker. However, given his recent comments during the movie’s press circuit, I have a feeling we will be seeing more of The Joker in upcoming DC Films.
