Here are the latest shots from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Nick Offerman and Jack Black
Attention producers: These two have never worked together. Could they be brothers? Best buddies on a road trip? Let’s turn this candid (from AT&T’s Village at the Lift) into a one-sheet.
Brigsby Bear x Luke Skywalker
This is not “Ted 3.” It’s “Brigsby Bear,” the comedy from “Sarurday Night Live” pals Dave McCary and Kyle Mooney that also stars Mark Hamill (above), Claire Danes, and Greg Kinnear (sadly not in attendance). At Monday night’s bash at the Kia Supper Suite, the roving dancing bear at the center of the story was the hit of the party.
Team “Brigsby Bear”
This was not their first trip to Utah. They shot the film there. Writer-director Dave McCary, writer-star Kyle Moony, “SNL’s” Beck Bennett, Steve Youngren, and Nicholas Rutherford were at the soiree, where Maestro Dobel Tequila and Johndrow Vineyard wines warmed the slushy masses coming in from Main Street.
The Horizon Award (For Emerging Female Filmmakers)
Jack Black, Carey Mulligan, Sharon Lawrence, and Dee Rees presented the 3rd annual Horizon Award to Brittany “B Monét” Fennell and Andy Villanueva at the WME House on Sunday (Jan. 22).
The prize, founded by Cassian Elwes, Lynnette Howell Taylor, and Christine Vachon, was an all-expense paid mentorship and trip to Sundance 2017 and a cash prize.
Cindi Leive, Shirley MacLaine, and Salma Hayek
The Glamour Editor-In-Chief’s annual power women’s lunch on Monday (Jan. 23) brought out the big guns.
The scene inside the Glamour x Girlgaze lunch, at fellow power woman Mimi Kim’s ski lodge style mansion in Park City.
Elle Fanning and Amanda De Cadenet
De Cadenet co-hosted with Leive promoting her Girlgaze brand.
Jill Soloway and Ry Russo Young
The “Transparent” creator and “Before I Fall” director had a showrunner’s pow-wow in a favorite hang out spot during parties at Mimi and husband Ken Griswold’s home.
“Ride the horse in the direction it’s going,” Soloway said, giving advice to females in the industry. “You don’t have to change course unless there’s a problem. If the horse is going in a certain direction, ride it.”
Carey Mulligan and Mary-J. Blige at the AT&T Village at the Lift
These two play the mothers of the two families front and center in “Mudbound,” which had festival buzz. “The finest Sundance film in recent memory,” said Marlow Stern at The Daily Beast.
John Legend, Aldis Hodge, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell
Legend’s party for the WGN show “Underground” drew a crowd on Saturday night. Anthony Hemingway (FX’s “The People vs. OJ Simpson”) executive produces the new season, which arrives in March.
DJ Dolph and Hodge
Tank top in the snow! Hodge’s wardrobe belies the non-stop snow that blanketed Park City over the opening four days of the festival.
Michelle Forbes and John Cho
Cho’s one-fingered salute is accidental. The “Columbus” star glided into the Kia Supper Suite on Sunday night with co-star Parker Posey, jumping behind the bar to grab their own drinks (just water bottles).
Mike White and Jorma Taccone
UTA brought together clients, executives, and friends of the surging agency at their Sundance Brunch at Riverhorse on Sunday morning before a day of screenings of films and the NFL playoffs. Here are UTA clients Mike White (one of our favorite “Amazing Race contestants ever and writer of “Beatriz at Dinner,”) and Jorma Taccone, who has been promoting his starring turn in “L.A. Times.”
UTA: Paul Scheer and Jay Gassner
The “Playdates” star and UTA Partner/Co-Head of Talent were amongst the crowd that included Drake Doremus, Shailene Woodley, Michael Showalter, Aisha Tyler, Zosia Mamet, Joshuah Bearman, Jessica Williams, Kumail Nanjiani, Larry Wilmore, Scott Z Burns, and Nic Hoult, among others.
UTA: Rena Ronson (Head of UTA’s Independent Film Group) and Director Michael Showalter
After an overnight negotiation, Showalter’s “The Big Sick” sold to Amazon Studios for $12 million. We hope these two drained the Riverhorse of mimosas.
John Popper and Bob Weir
Speaking of Amazon, they celebrated the Grateful Dead documentary “Long Strange Trip” with a rocking live music performance on Sunday night. Here, the Blues Traveler front man plays with Bob Weir.
Amir Bar-Lev, Annabelle Garcia, and Joe Lewis
Amir Bar-Lev hangs with Jerry Garcia’s daughter, Annabelle, and Amazon’s head of comedy and drama, Joe Lewis.
Kevin Bacon and Lewis
Bacon showed up as a fan. He has been in Park City for “I Love Dick,” the new Amazon series from “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway.
DJ Ruckus, Lil Jon, and Christina Milian
Meanwhile, the tunes were much different at the third and final night of the TAO pop-up off of Main Street.
At 2 a.m. Sunday night/Monday morning, the ropeline to get in was thicker than at any point during the night. As one TAO executive said, “The thirst is real.”
Austin Peters and Diplo
Peters directed a free Major Lazer show featured in the Cuba doc “Give Me Future.” It had support from Pepsi’s Creators League.
Jason Mitchell and Mary J. Blige
The man who brought Eazy-E back to life in “Straight Outta Compton” last year is focused on prestige projects. Mitchell (with Blige at the Creators League Studio) came to town for “Mudbound.”
Lili Taylor and Keanu Reeves
“To The Bone,” an anorexia drama with Lily Collins in the lead, sold to Netflix within two days of its Park City premiere.
Kehlani
The singer smartly accepted YouTube’s invite to promote her upcoming release this week with a midnight performance at their Main Street space. She has over 281 million views in under three years.
YouTube’s Sadie Thoma
Is 6 the new 30? The head of YouTube’s Creative Agency Partnership says yes. Thoma brought together more than 200 brands on Saturday to preach YouTube’s commitment to the evolution of mobile ads down to six seconds. YouTube is challenging advertisers to do what Viners did for years: Tell a story, a complete story, in six seconds rather than cram in as much brand plugging in 5 seconds before viewers “opt-out” of the back 25 seconds of an ad when the “skip” button appears.
Gigi Gorgeous
The trans icon debuted the feature documentary “Gigi Gorgeous: This is Everything” at the festival, an official selection. YouTube Red produced and will distribute the film. Here, Gigi meets a fan at the YouTube Space (Jan. 24).
Director Barbara Kopple
The two-time Oscar winner (center) directed the feature doc.
Nick Cannon
After Kehlani, the “America’s Got Talent” and “Wild N’ Out” media machine put his fingerprints on YouTube’s second floor turntables. St. Vincent also played one of YouTube’s late night music showcases.
Dan Harmon
Harmon made news during the festival by tweeting an offer to hire suspended SNL writer Katie Rich. The “Harmontown” podcaster and showrunner reportedly has a project in the works with their Subscription VOD, YouTube Red.
Geena Davis
The Benajmin-buttoning “Thelma & Louise” legend intentionally mashed up festivals, promoting her own Bentonville Film Festival (in Arkansas) at Sundance. Davis’ May festival is the only film competition in the world to guarantee theatrical, television, digital and retail home entertainment distribution for select winners.
Jay Sean
Before playing Danny Masterson’s bar Downstairs on Saturday night, Jay Sean pre-gamed at Nylon and Dream Hollywood’s happy hour party. The Dream went out of their way this year to make a splash as the finishing touches are going on the Dream Hollywood hotel and hospitality complex due to open in our backyards in March.
Christina Milian
Milian supported the Shriners for Children Center at Debbie Durkin’s EcoLuxe Lounge. Durkin deserves niche recognition: She won “Sundance Survivor”as the last gifting suite standing. For supporting the charity partners, top talent walked off with something for the cold (some stylish CMFRCanada hats) and something for the sun (a stay at a resort in the Caryman Islands called Le Soleil d’Or Resort Cayman Brac).
Trevor Jackson
The star of fraternity hazing drama “Burning Sands” popped in to the “What’s Trending” studio before the film’s Tuesday premiere. Common is an executive producer and contributes a song to the film.
Shira Lazar and Bart Baker
There’s the “What’s Trending” founder and face of the digital media company Shira Lazar (who scored a gig as an official Sundance Film Festival snapchat influencer) prowling Park Avenue with YouTube star Bart Baker. This pic was shot outside the Wireimage studio.
Francis Ford Coppola*
*wines.
While the “Godfather” legend was not at the festival, there was a Francis Ford Coppola pop-up winery targeting thirsty cinephiles.
Next: The Oscars. The winery recently signed a three-year deal to provide wines for the Academy, besides champagne.
Jeff Skoll and UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Dean Teri Schwartz
These two both have their eye on the future. Socially conscious producer and financier Skoll linked up Schwartz at UCLA’s annual Park City reception.
IMDb Founder Col Needham and Peter Dinklage
After Dinklage picked up the STARMeter award on Monday night, it was time to celebrate the IMDb founder’s 50th birthday party.
The crowd included…
Festival Director John Cooper and Julia Ormond
The big boss at Sundance and Ormond, who has been on the scene for days, toasted Needham, one of the first web entrepreneurs to already have celebrated a 25th anniversary.
