The Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show was about as exciting as the first half of Super Bowl LIII. Considering the current score is 3-0, you get what we’re saying there.

For those who flipped over to “WWE Halftime Heat” or the “Puppy Bowl” at the midpoint of Sunday’s big game, allow us to catch you up. For starters, no, there were no Colin Kaepernick references. Also, with no surprise appearance by rapper Andre 3000, there wasn’t an Outkast reunion for host-city Atlanta to lose it over.

But what did we get? Well, rapper Travis Scott was introduced by a “SpongeBob SquarePants” vignette. So there’s that.

We also got a handful of headliner Maroon 5 songs, some bars out of Scott and Big Boi, one cool car, and a whole bunch of sky-lantern drones with personalized messages on them.

Singer Rihanna and rapper Cardi B both said they declined the halftime gig in support of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who many people believe was blackballed from the NFL for kneeling during the national anthem. Kaepernick, who was subsequently joined in the act by some other players, said he took a knee before his games in protest over police mistreatment of black youth.

The second half to Super Bowl LIII is underway on CBS.
