Maxwell Lord is coming to “Supergirl.” CBS has added “Twilight” actor Peter Facinelli to play the DC comic book character on its new series starring Melissa Benoist.

The announcement was made Saturday at Warner Bros. TV’s San Diego Comic-Con panel.

Facinelli will have a recurring role on the show, and this incarnation of Maxwell Lord will be a tech billionaire who has a rivalry with self-made media magnate Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and is fascinated by the arrival of Supergirl (Benoist).

In addition to playing Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the “Twilight” series, Facinelli recently wrapped his seven-season run on Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie” and a starring role in NBC’s just-canceled thriller “American Odyssey.”

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I have been fans of Peter for years,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “We’re beyond thrilled to have him join us on Supergirl’s first adventures bringing the iconic Maxwell Lord to life.”

Based on the characters from DC Comics, “Supergirl” is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The series debuts Monday, Oct. 26, at a special time of 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS, and will then air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
