In a new trailer for “Supergirl” Season 4, fans can catch a glimpse of cast newcomer Nicole Maines as Nia Nal, a.k.a. Dreamer, a.k.a. the first transgender super hero on TV.
“Fear. No matter how much we believe in ourselves, that never really goes away,” Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) said to her new co-worker Nia Nal in the trailer.
“I think, ‘I’m not afraid of anything,’ and then something chases me back down the rabbit hole. But once we catch ourselves, we have to jump right back out there,” Kara continued. And it seems like there’s plenty to be afraid of this season, with a shot of Lex Luthor’s former bodyguard Mercy Graves (Rhona Mitra) in the trailer as well.
Maines’ role in “Supergirl” Season 4 was announced this summer at San Diego Comic-Con. Her character is described as “A soulful young transgender woman with a fierce drive to protect others, Nia’s journey this season means fulfilling her destiny as the superhero Dreamer (much like Kara came into her own as Supergirl).”
Other newcomers this season include April Parker-Jones as Colonel Haley and David Ajala as Manchester Black.

“Supergirl” Season 4 premieres on a new night Sunday, Oct. 14, on The CW.
