SXSW Unveils Midnight Movies, Music Videos and Shorts Slate

The genre lineups have been strong at several festivals in a row, as the bias against horror continues to fade

South by Southwest will premiere eight movies and a screen a couple of other films from horror veterans in its midnights movie section, the film festival said Wednesday.

South by Southwest announced the bulk of its movie lineup last week, but it has unveiled midnight movies, short films (narrative, documentary and animated), as well as music videos.

“What an amazing year for genre film! We were blown away by the quality of work submitted and narrowing them down was no easy task,” SXSW producer and senior programmer Jarod Neece said in a statement. The genre lineups have been strong at several festivals in a row, as the bias against horror continues to fade and top filmmakers explore darker stories.

The music video lineup includes songs from acts like MGMT, Passion Pit and Tame Impala.
