Jon Hamm Explains How ‘Tag’ Co-Star Jeremy Renner Worked With 2 Broken Arms (Video)

“Snapped like a matchstick,” says “Mad Men” alum of Renner’s on-set injury

It’s always fun until someone gets hurt — and you have a whole movie to shoot.

When “Tag” star Jon Hamm stopped by Ellen DeGeneres’ show on Tuesday to talk about the upcoming comedy, he shared how his co-star broke both his arms (a story that first broke while they were filming last summer) and how they ultimately worked around the freak accident.

“We had several on-set injuries, the most notable being — I was not there that day, so it’s impossible to blame this on me — Jeremy Renner, who broke both of his arms at the same time, day three of production,” Hamm said. “We had 40 more days to go with a guy in two [casts].”

“Keep in mind this is a man who’s done 100 ‘Avengers’ movies and been fine,” Hamm said of Renner, who plays Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “And he does a movie about playing tag — both arms. Like firewood, just snapped like a matchstick.”

Hamm explained he had to leave production to go to the premiere of his film “Baby Driver” in London and when he returned four hours later he asked how it was going and learned, uh, “not great.”

“I was like, ‘Welp, OK I guess,’” Hamm said of learning his co-star had injured two limbs.

But the show must go on, and filmmakers didn’t shut down production. “No, he wore green screen casts that we eventually painted out in the edit,” the “Mad Men” alum said.

“Yeah, he is a hard working –,’ Hamm said, before being cut off by DeGeneres, who asked if he himself got hurt.

“Other than my pride when I realized that running around for longer than 30 seconds would feel like I was having a heart attack, that was pretty much the extent of my injuries,” the actor said to laughter.

“Tag” hits theaters June 15.
