Taron Egerton Takes to the Piano as Elton John in ‘Rocketman’ First Trailer (Video)

Dexter Fletcher’s musical biopic promises to be “a wild ride”

The first “Rocketman” trailer touched down on Monday morning, and the movie promises to be as fabulous as it’s famous subject.

“There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is,” the voiceover says. “It’s going to be a wild ride.”

The same can be said for the lead actor, as Taron Egerton showcases what’s sizing up to be a career-defining role as Elton John in Dexter Fletcher’s musical fantasy.

The one-minute trailer shows Egerton playing piano, romancing women, flying on a private jet and even plunging fully clothed into a swimming pool.

Along with revealing John’s extravagant lifestyle during his rise to fame in the ’70s, the trailer also promises glimpses into his dark side with an ambulance trip to a hospital.

Fletcher’s biopic is described as an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of John’s breakthrough years, with Egerton playing the music giant in various stages of his legendary life.

The film also stars Jamie Bell as longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, Richard Madden as music manager John Reid and Bryce Dallas Howard as his mother, Sheila.

Egerton, a young British actor best known for the two “Kingsman” spy movies and the upcoming latest iteration of “Robin Hood,” is set to sing John’s songs himself on screen.

Lee Hall wrote the script for the film.

John is producing with Marv Films and Matthew Vaughn alongside John’s Rocket Pictures partner and husband David Furnish.

Paramount is set to release the movie on May 17.
