Telemundo Media has promoted Eli Velazquez to senior vice president, Sports.
Velazquez served as vice president of the same group since 2008; he will continue to report to executive vice president Jorge Hidalgo in the new role.
“During his 15 years at Telemundo Media, Eli has shown steadfast leadership and a deep understanding of the Hispanic and sports markets,” Hidalgo said in a statement. “His successful track-record and extensive experience in network sports proves Eli’s ability to fuel the growth of the network’s sports programming to maintain Telemundo Media’s leadership in the U.S. Spanish-language market.”

For his work on the London Olympics, Velazquez received his second National Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Event Turnaround as part of the NBC Sports Group. In 2008, he won his first National Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Event Turnaround as producer of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
Previously, as director of sports, Velazquez helped to secure a content and programming agreement with the NFL, which led to the first-ever Spanish-language broadcast of a regular season game. He also served as senior producer for the network’s Emmy Award-winning coverage of the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.
Velazquez joined Telemundo in 1999 as a producer for “Boxeo Telemundo,” and was the first to produce “Titulares Telemundo.”
