Move over, Matt Smith. There’s a new prince in town.

Tobias Menzies has been cast as the older version of Prince Philip in Season 3 of Netflix’s “The Crown,” an individual with knowledge of the casting tells TheWrap.

Menzies will take over for Smith, who starred in the first two seasons alongside Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth. Olivia Colman was previously confirmed as the new Elizabeth II, with Helena Bonham Carter set to replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret.

Menzies brings some royal pedigree to the role, after playing Brutus on HBO’s “Rome” and Edmure Tully on “Game of Thrones.” He is best known for the dual roles of Frank Randall and Black Jack Randall on “Outlander” and is currently starring in AMC’s new series from Ridley Scott, “The Terror.”

The series will see a time jump for Seasons 3 and 4, which is why the re-crowning — err, recasting — is happening. So don’t worry, this plan was already in place before producers recently apologized to stars Foy and Smith for what Left Bank Pictures called the “media storm” the duo found themselves in the middle of over their pay discrepancy.

Season 2 of “The Crown” dropped on Netflix on Dec. 8. No officially premiere date is set for the next installment.

Deadline first reported the news of Menzies’ casting.
