‘The Daily Show’ Imagines Joe Biden’s Stump Speech as a Bad Stand-Up Set (Video)

What’s the deal with elections?

“The Daily Show” thinks Joe Biden might be better as an ’80s-style stand up comic than as a presidential candidate.

On Wednesday’s episode, Trevor Noah took a look at a speech Biden gave Tuesday in Iowa, and the numerous attempts to zing Donald Trump contained within. Biden touched on topics like Trump’s ideas about tariffs, about whether windmills cause cancer, and about presidential power.

“I’ll be honest, I don’t know if this was an effective campaign speech that would convince a swing voter,” Noah said after playing an edited clip of Biden’s remarks. “What I do know is, Joe Biden just got a brand-new standup special deal on HBO.”

Cue a parody deep fake featuring video of Biden’s head, superimposed on the body of someone in a leather jacket, standing in front of a brick wall, gesturing as Biden drops lines from his stump speech. And of course, a smooth jazz bass line ala the “Seinfeld” theme music plays in the background.

The result is pretty much identical to one of the (we’re guessing) 4 million stand up specials that aired on HBO and other channels during the late 80s and 90s. Especially because one of Biden’s real-life zing lines is, “I’m not joking, I’m not making this up.”

Watch the whole thing — the Biden part kicks in about 4 minutes, 45 seconds in — above.
