Sean Penn is about to boldly go where he has never gone before in the official teaser trailer for Hulu’s new space drama “The First,” from “House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon.
In the 1-minute, 47-second clip, the Academy Award-winning actor is about to embark on a mission to Mars that is going to “cost” him something — we just don’t know what yet. But according to the teaser, this price comes “any time people venture into the unknown.”
“Every human being who ever was lived out their lives… on a mound of dust suspended in a sunbeam,” Penn says, while marveling at the wonders of the world and the galaxy beyond.
Here’s a description for the series that accompanied the teaser: Set in the near future (2030), this groundbreaking story explores the challenges of taking the first steps towards Mars. Viewers will get an intimate look at the dedicated characters trying to reach the unknown while dealing with the psychological and physical toll it takes to achieve the impossible.
Penn stars opposite Natascha McElhone in the drama, along with LisaGay Hamilton, Hannah Ware, Keiko Agena, Rey Lucas, James Ransone, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Brian Lee Franklin, and Oded Fehr also star.
Willimon and Jordan Tappis, from Westward Productions, are executive producing. Westward owns and will produce the series, which is co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, IMG and AG Studios. IMG will handle all international rights.
All episodes of “The First” will land September 14 on Hulu.
