‘The Great British Baking Show’: Why You Can’t Binge Full Season 10 on Netflix

Netflix streaming episodes much closer to their U.K. airdate

Netflix debuted the 10th season of “The Great British Baking Show,” the popular British cooking show on Aug. 30 in an unusual format: It only aired the premiere episode, rather than make the entire season available at the same time.

That is different from how Netflix has aired previous seasons of the show, which sees amateur bakers compete against one another. Until now, Netflix had released all 10 episodes of a new season together, which came well after their U.K. run on BBC One.

But for this season (the 10th overall, but seventh to air in the U.S., which had aired on PBS before moving to Netflix), U.S. and U.K. viewers are getting the episodes (almost) at the same time.

Netflix will get new episodes four days after they air on Channel 4. So, rather than wait until the season is done in the U.K., Netflix is syncing up so U.S. viewers can watch them earlier. But that also means that it can’t air the whole season before the episodes can run in the U.K.

The series is called “The Great British Bake Off” in the U.K. Channel 4 took over airing the series from BBC One this season. “Great British Bake Off” is a British baking show in which a group of amateur bakers battle against each other, with contestants being eliminated in each round.
