A new doctor is coming to Chastain Memorial Park Hospital when “The Resident” returns for its third season this September, with this one played by Morris Chestnut.
Chestnut is joining Season 3 of the Matt Czuchry-led Fox medical drama as Dr. Barrett Cain, “an intimidating neurosurgeon hired by Red Rock Medical to turn around Chastain’s finances.”
Cain believes himself to be a superman physician, capable of curing crippling diseases, according to Fox. He’s charming when he wants to be, but utterly ruthless in his quest for money and power. His ability to exact swift revenge on any who oppose him will put the good doctors at Chastain in jeopardy and drive the season-long thriller arc.
Here’s Fox’s description:
When THE RESIDENT returns Tuesday, Sept. 24(8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, Red Rock Mountain Medical has taken control of the hospital. The doctors are faced with their hardest fight yet against the corrupting influence of money in health care. As each new case enters the hospital, this justice league of courageous young physicians will put their futures and careers on the line to stop “profit over patients.”
Along with Czuchry, the series stars Emily VanCamp, Bruce Greenwood, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jane Leeves and Glenn Morshower.
“The Resident” is executive produced by Todd Harthan, Amy Holden Jones, Rob Corn, Antoine Fuqua, David Boorstein, Oly Obst, Elizabeth Klaviter and Marc Halsey. The series hails from 20th Century Fox Television.
Chestnut is best known for his roles in the films “The Best Man Holiday,” “Boyz in the Hood,” and “The Brothers,” and TV series “Rosewood,” “Nurse Jackie,” and “Goliath.” He recently starred in the now-canceled NBC spy drama “The Enemy Within.”
He is repped by WME and Link Entertainment.
“The Resident” Season 3 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 8/7c on Fox.
