ESPN’s fantasy football guru has turned his sights on Hollywood, and now the women of “The View” are taking up the challenge.
After helping out stars like Jay Z, Seth Meyers and Daniel Radcliffe with their NFL lineups each week, senior fantasy analyst Matthew Berry launched FantasyMovieLeague.com and is inviting “The View” fans to test their movie know-how and compete against Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Michelle Collins, Paula Faris and Raven-Symoné. The league kicked off on Wednesday and contestants have until 9 a.m. ET Friday to sign up to play.
“At ESPN, I’ve seen the power of fantasy football and how much consumption it drives. People who play fantasy football watch more football, buy more jerseys and tickets, talk about it more online. They are the most engaged fans. There’s a similar opportunity here for Hollywood,” Berry, a former writer on “Married … with Children” told TheWrap. “The more people are playing FantasyMovieLeague, the more they are buying tickets to movies, memorabilia and discussing upcoming movies online.”
Just like fantasy football, where when a player scores a touchdown in real life he scores one for your fantasy team, the same goes for movies, Berry explained. “You ‘program’ an eight-screen fantasy Cineplex with movies that are currently in the marketplace. How much money those movies make at the box office is how much they make for your fantasy theater and the most money at the end of the season wins,” he said.

The Fantasy Movie League Contest runs for seven-consecutive weeks with final entries due by noon ET on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016. Each week viewers must pick which movies they think will earn the most at the box office, and the one at the top of the weekly scoreboard will win movie-themed prizes. One viewer will be selected at random to win the Golden Ticket Prize, a trip for two to New York City to attend a live broadcast of “The View.”
The winner of the Grand Prize will get a trip to Hollywood for the Oscars, incluidng two roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles to sit in the bleachers on the famed red carpet at the Academy Awards and attend an exclusive VIP viewing party at the El Capitan Theater to watch the live Oscars broadcast on Feb. 28, 2016.
