‘The Walking Dead’: Watch the New Season 9 Title Credits (Video)

New sequence gives a nod to the zombie series’ comic book roots

It’s a new world, so why not have a new opening sequence to go along with it?

AMC gave “Walking Dead” fans a treat Wednesday when the network released the new opening credits sequence that will accompany the series’ ninth season, which premieres this Sunday.

“The opening credit sequence is indicative of the new look and feel to the world this season and we wanted to give a nod to the show’s graphic novel origins,” said executive producer and showrunner Angela Kang.

“As we jump into a new chapter of the story, we wanted to present something fun and fresh for our viewers to reflect the changing landscape, where nature will be playing a bigger role,” she continued. “While our survivors work to rebuild and adjust to the crumbling infrastructure, the threat of the dead is constantly looming. And true to the spirit of our show, there are Easter Eggs for the fans to find if they’re looking close!”

Eagle-eyed fans will recognize Michonne’s katana, Daryl’s crossbow, the tree with stained glass from the Season 8 finale — and yes, a glimpse of that helicopter.

The “All Out War” storyline ended with Season 8, and Season 9 will see the communities of Alexandria, Hilltop, Oceanside and the Sanctuary a year and a half later.

“The Walking Dead” Season 9 premieres Sunday, Oct. 7 on AMC.
