Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’ Trailer Is Doggone Freaky (Video)

Dark-humor maestro Tim Burton brings a twisted take to the boy-and-his-dog genre with a revamp of his 1984 film

Leave it to Tim Burton to bring a twisted take to the classic boy-and-his-dog tale.

Way back in 1984, Burton teamed with Disney to create "Frankenweenie," the heart-warming tale of a lad who reanimates his dead pet with electrical impulses.

Nearly 30 years later, Burton in now revisiting the film — which starred Shelley Duvall, Daniel Stern and Barret Oliver — in animated form, with Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short and Martin Landau providing voice work for the stop-motion revamp.

As the film's new trailer — which will play in in front of "John Carter" next Friday — attests, the film blends influences ranging from Burton's previous stop-motion efforts "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "Corpse Bride" to the black-and-white, Universal horror films of the 1930s that inspired the original "Frankenweenie."

Burton's re-imagination of his own vision hits theaters on Oct. 5. Until then, give yourself a jolt with the trailer below.
