The “Today” show continued its momentum, beating ABC’s “Good Morning America” in the advertising-coveted 25-54 demo for the second week in a row.

The victory is the NBC morning show’s seventh out of the last 14 weeks in the younger demo. NBC attracted 1,535,000 demo viewers compared to GMA’s 1,472,000 demo viewers for the week of July 20.

The ABC broadcast won in total viewers, 4,318,00 viewers vs. “Today”‘s 4,027,000 viewers. “Today” closed the total viewer gap by 658,000 year-over-year. It also won the first month of the third quarter in the demo.

As political season heats up ahead of the 2016 election, the two shows will be going head-to-head more fiercely than ever, looking for the big “get” among the candidates and voting public, which always seems to produce a few “Joe the Plumbers” each election cycle.

“CBS This Morning” still ranks third in total viewers and the younger demo, but will also be a factor this campaign season.
