Tracy Underwood to Lead Creative Affairs for ABC Studios

She will oversee all development for both ABC Studios and ABC Signature

ABC Studios has promoted Tracy Underwood to executive vice president of creative affairs at ABC Studios.

In this newly-created role, Underwood will expand her portfolio beyond the development efforts of ABC Signature to include the comedy and drama development activities of ABC Studios, with all of the label’s development teams reporting to her. She will have oversight of the scripted development of ABC Studios’ and ABC Signature’s comedies and dramas for all platforms, and she will be tasked with everything from identifying writers for potential projects to shepherding ideas from pitch to production order.

Underwood most recently served as senior vice president of ABC Signature, a role she held since 2013. She was tasked with overseeing ABC Studios’ move into cable and streaming development and was responsible for series including Epix’s “Godfather of Harlem,” and Hulu’s “Dollface” and “High Fidelity,” the latter of which debuts on Friday.

“When I started at ABC Studios, I knew I needed a key senior executive overseeing the development of all of our projects, and almost immediately Tracy emerged as the perfect person for the job,” ABC Studios president Jonnie Davis said. “She really is a creative force in this company, with exceptional taste in material, deep relationships with writers and a keen eye for compelling IP. She has been responsible for some of our most noteworthy recent projects, from ‘Godfather of Harlem’ and ‘Dollface’ to the eagerly anticipated ‘Little Fires Everywhere’ and ‘High Fidelity.’ This new position gives her even more territory to cover as we establish ABC Studios as a premiere destination for great talent to come and do their best work.”

Remarked Underwood, “It’s a remarkable time to be in the content business with so many extraordinary creators and producers we’re lucky enough to have in our family. I’m grateful to Jonnie, Dana and Craig for this vote of confidence and thrilled and honored to be working more closely with my colleagues as we expand our portfolio within the Disney ecosystem and beyond.”
