Trevor Noah will depart “The Daily Show” on Dec. 8, Comedy Central announced Wednesday.

In the buildup to the comedian’s last day hosting, “The Daily Show” will celebrate and look back on his seven year tenure as host.

“Trevor is an incredible talent who has left an indelible mark on The Daily Show and we’re grateful for his creative partnership over the past seven years,” said Chris McCarthy, president & CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios.

Noah announced his departure at the end of the taping for the episode that aired Thursday, Sept. 29. He noted that that week marked his seven year anniversary with “The Daily Show.”

“I found myself thinking throughout the time, you know, everything we’ve gone through, the Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey of, you know, the more pandemic,” he said in the taping. “And then, and I realized that after the seven years, my time is up.”

“I’ve loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I have loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days. You know, we’ve we’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it’s it’s it’s time,” he added.

Noah indicated that, with the pandemic winding down, being able to do standup again made him want to return to that career.

After heading to Atlanta to cover the midterm elections from one of the most important battleground states, “The Daily Show” will embark on a reinvention, returning Tuesday, Jan. 17 with additional details forthcoming.

The potential successor for Noah has not yet been announced.

“Chris (McCarthy) has been an amazing leader and partner who has helped me realize my dream of working not just in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes, producing content which now airs across the Paramount family,” Noah said Wednesday in a statement. “I’m truly excited to see what the future holds.”

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and is available the following morning on Paramount+.
