“Nashville Flipped” star Troy Dean Shafer has died, DIY Network confirmed to TheWrap on Wednesday. He was 38.
“The DIY Network family is sorry to hear about the passing of Troy Dean Shafer, a dedicated, driven entrepreneur and restoration expert who was admired by everyone who worked on the series ‘Nashville Flipped,’” a spokesperson for DIY said in a statement. “We continue to extend our deepest condolences to Troy’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Troy Dean Shafer remodels houses primarily from the 1800s and early 1900s, restoring original features and preserving as much character as possible. He also brings in period pieces like doors and windows from other projects, or pieces found at antique stores and flea markets to add character to the houses.
TMZ reported Wednesday that Shafer died “unexpectedly” in his sleep on April 28.
The website says an autopsy was not performed, but a toxicology report is expected to be finalized in the coming days. The Erie County, Pennsylvania coroner’s office was closed when TheWrap attempted to confirm that information.
“The entire family is in shock because Troy didn’t have any known medical conditions,” TMZ reported, citing Troy’s brother as its source for that information. “Troy was laid to rest last week, at a very small private burial for his family.”
DIY Network is soon to be rebranded as former HGTV couple Chip and Joanna Gaines’ (“Fixer Upper”) own cable channel. “Nashville Flipped” aired 17 episodes over two seasons, running from 2016 to 2017.
