‘True Detective’: Scoot McNairy to Join Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo for Season 3

The anthology series’ third season will take place in the Ozarks

Scoot McNairy is the latest addition to the “True Detective” Season 3 cast, a spokesperson told TheWrap Tuesday.

The “Godless” star joins Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo and Stephen Dorff in the HBO drama’s upcoming run that focuses on a macabre crime in the Ozarks. The third season spans several decades and is divided into three separate time periods.

McNairy will play Tom, a father with connections to state police. Ali plays state police detective Wayne Hays; Dorff plays his partner Roland West; and Ejogo plays Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher.

Series creator and executive producer Nic Pizzolatto serves as writer, showrunner and director for Season 3. Jeremy Saulnier directs and executive produces.

Also executive producing are Scott Stephens, Steve Golin, Bard Dorros and Richard Brown, along with show vets Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson and Cary Joji Fukunaga.

McNairy’s credits include TV series “Halt and Catch Fire” and “Fargo.” He also had roles in “12 Years A Slave” and “Gone Girl.” He can next be seen alongside Nicole Kidman in “Destroyer.” He’s represented by WME and John Pierce, The Group Management.

“True Detective” Season 3 is expected to be released in 2019.
