Trump Family Compared to the Borgias on ‘Morning Joe’ (Video)

POTUS and kin remind Random House executive editor of Italian Renaissance-era royal family — who were also suspected of multiple crimes

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were out on Friday but the replacement panel filled their Trump-mocking void, with one guest comparing the Trump family to a controversial family from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Random House executive editor Jon Meacham compared Trump’s family to the “Borgias,” a Spanish noble family that rose to prominence during the Italian Renaissance and were featured in the Showtime drama “The Borgias.”

“The Trump example, both in terms of the family and of the in-laws, is unique in American history, at this level… and ambient reality of the power of that circle. Yes, Bobby Kennedy was attorney general and yes, President Kennedy joked that Bobby should get some legal experience by being attorney general before he went out to practice, but Robert Kennedy was a formidable figure,” Meacham said.

He continued: “This is more like The Borgias.”

The Showtime program based on the Borgias family ran from 2011-2013 and focused on the family’s struggle to maintain their power after being suspected of a variety of crimes.

“It’s taking a toll,” Meacham said of the Trump family drama — which includes Donald Trump Jr. meeting with Russians who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton and son-in-law Jared Kushner being mixed up in a variety of controversies.
